Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) are a fire prevention safety requirement in the current 2020 National Electrical Code® (NEC®). The NEC® requirement includes installation of AFCIs in all new home construction including bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, sunrooms, othering gathering places and in kitchen and laundry areas.
Below is a link to current maps from the National Fire Protection Association that indicate states that have established residential and/or electrical codes that require AFCI use in all new homebuilding. Each state varies as to its own individual electrical code requirements for new home construction and renovation.
